How to Analyze Conflict and Violence
Lucian: If you talk about conflicts and violence, often representations of it are very much contested so people have very different perspectives on if violence takes place. I would encourage people to not take those representations for granted, but to study very closely empirically how they relate to what happens in micro situations. So that would be my advice, start bottom up, start in the locality and then see what kind of elements are there that we can identify. The problem is that conflict is very complex and it's very messy and bad guys and good guys are not always distinguishable.
