How to Generalize the Lesson I Teach My Undergrads

Sedin: Whatever i do in the class room does it terrible job of helping students to be able to generalize. I've completely changed the way i teach my undergraduates. Used to focus intensely on emphasizing facts, detailed knowledge and mathematical techniques. But when they came back for their five year reunion, what they remembered from my class was almost nothing. The only things that were sticking with them,. at least at a conscious level, were things that were different and outrageous and salient. It reminds me of my own education in retrospect.
