The idea is for cash poor Amazon employees who don't have enough cash to put down the down payment and want to buy a house. If you're putting down like a $100,000 down payment, you need $200,000 of Amazon stock to tie up against that down payment. So basically, anyone who takes advantage of this product is making a bet that their Amazon stock will appreciate more than 8% per year.
