In 17 66, locals erupted over a whole host of complaints. The guanahuato riot of 17 66 receded without further incident. But then everything re exploded in an even widerspread series of protests the following year when word came that the jesuits had been expelled from the empire. Protests and clashes and the occasional riot accompanied the forced expulsion of the jesuit brothers but it never coalesced into a broader, unified movement. And as with all these precursor uprisings, temperatures did soon cool. Down in spanish south america, the 17 seventies turned out to be a time of renewed calm and order.
