Bob canvall: The cost of health and safety regulation is outrageously large, and the benefits are trivial, if any. John claber: We've saved about 55 thousand lives and millions of injuries because of auto safety regulations since the mid 19 sixties. What sustains regulation is sort of a populous theory that somehow, through government, we will redistribute wealth from people who own business firms to consumers. In fact, it doesn't work that way.
