i think of something called the self determination theory, which often speaks to why are people fulfilled at their work. There's competence, am i good at what i do? Do i know how to do this job? Am i autonomist? And relatedness, which is not a great word, but it essentially means a my part of something bigger than myself, and my part of a team.
