Introduction
Glasgow was the intellectual center of Britain in the 18th century and to a large extent in the 19th century. In 1919, there was a general strike in Glasgow which Churchill put up machine guns in George Square - that is so Churchill. The empire depended heavily on the loyalty of at least the middle class of Glasgow.
