In the past few years, there have been a series of military coups in West Africa. This has led to the rise of nationalist governments that oppose neo-colonial policies,. France colonized most of West Africa and still maintains control over much of its economies. The Western powers are trying to use this organization as cover to overthrow Niger's pro-Western government.
