i think it was important to have an academic institution that was wiling to do it, because o'camel is in many ways a deeply academic language its roots. A lot of the work that needed to be done was work about coordinating open source ego systems and maintainership. Work is not the kind of stuff that gets your tenure. Most institutions aren't willing to take it on. And cambridge was. i'm particularly proud of the number of people that have learnt and moved on from cambridge to other jobs in the ecosystem and succeeded.
