The Overdraft and the Stylist's Life
I was on a £21,000 a year salary at stylist. So I didn't really have the safety nets that others do. It's journalism nowadays. You need to support yourself and you can still do great work even if you're doing four days a week somewhere else. There is no point writing amazing pieces and having so much stress because you don't actually have a house or a roof of your head. And it's disappointing that the industry doesn't seem to want to pay young people more for their work. Freelance rates in this country should be getting higher than they are now. Having the money to take that space is such a freedom.
