After being arrested, lee shelton managed to procure the legal services of a certain nat dryden. Dryden was well known as a morophine addect and a severe alcoholic. After 22 hours of deliberation, the jury could not come to a unanimous decision. Faced with a hung jury, the judge discharged the jurors and ordered a re trial. In the few months between trials, nat dryden passed away. The story goes that his wife offered him a glass of sherry one night at dinner.
