There's something in the story that makes me think that he's not sure that he will do it until that actually happens early on this story. however he was carrying a gun the gun didn't find its own way into his pocketYes so at some point he planned this yes he had in his words an amazing plan for how to solve this and he did not let Maria in on that planYeah and there you go she has a name with Christian resonance as well Yes yeah not to defend him it's a terrible thing that he does but I mean they are in a peculiar situation where there where I think time passes really slowly  that seems to be happening when we're not sure where we heading
