The Death of a Sorcerer

In a village in eastern Europe, the drought drove people to remember how an old man had died months before. Despite being known as a sorcerer, he had been buried inside the town. So they decided to dig him up and then douse his corpse with holy water. A local priest was asked to come along on the bizarre ritual. An entire procession of people marched out from the centre of the village - some armed with shovels,. Others played flutes and fiddles to give the disturbing moment its own sound track. And that was when father constantine showed up. At the sight of him, the villagers cheered, referred to as joyful greetings in the later newspaper account, and welcomed him
