In the mid 1700s, Ben Franklin wrote in one of his books, Time is Money. Historians think he probably wasn't the first one to come up with that saying, but it really stuck. It was around this point that people started thinking about time as a commodity. Like you arrived for your job at exactly 6am and left the factory at 8pm, for example.
