The newest and most innovative tools are often the flashiest, but almost by definition, they're not going to be used by as many people. So tried and true tools used in slightly different ways or thought about in slightly innovative fashion can actually be much more effective. "I think that thinking about how the social media manipulation and disinformation efforts in the 2016 campaign were used is exactly along those lines," she says.
