Your Value as a Faculty Member Is Based on Your Ability to Execute on Your Purpose

I think that there's nothing wrong with getting a lot of satisfaction out of working hard towards something and then seeing that hard work come to fruition. But in academic medicine, especially like the content of what you created can start to mean a lot less than the thing itself. And I think that we have an incredible advantage from being people who are actually outside of the norm that the system was built for. In some way, shape or form, you went against the grain to get here. That place is where so much of your creativity comes from.
