I don't think she honestly cared what they thought of her. She had an incredibly strong sense of self at the very core of her. So I suppose that the thing that you see in Lea and Aura is how important it is for women to self-define. But then I'm also intrigued by her work actually documenting someone like Max Ernst. They were both very much in love for much of their time.
