The Yakaruna in the Black Lagoon
The creature in the film does not share the supernatural abilities of the yakaruna, but there are a number of references to this fairy legend. The movie is most likely about the indigenous legends of the water people of the Amazon,. They can transform humans into them and transformation is said to be irreversible. It is a more linear path between the folklore and the common known entity of Gilman versus Dracula.
