The Structure of Sleep in Human Beings

Sleep is broadly separated into two main types. In humans at least, and it's different for different species, will last about 90 minutes. For the average adult, a prototypical 90 minute cycle where you go into non rem sleep and then you go into rem sleep. But what changes, however, is the ratio of non ram to rem within those 90 minute cycles as you move across the night. And that has some consequences that we can also talk about.
