What Is the Total to HDL Cholesterol Ratio?

The total to HDL cholesterol ratio is going to act as a marker of slow metabolism of LDL particles. The more time that LDL particles spend in the blood, the more cholesterol moves from HDL into LDL. Cholesterol is denser than triglycerides, so LDL particles get small and dense. When they oxidize, it's the polyunsaturated fatty acids in the phospholipids that make up the membrane of the LDL particle that start oxidizing. Those get removed, largely mopped up by lipoprotein A or LP little A,. That also, the loss of phospholipid makes LDL particles smaller and denser.
