An autopsy on the remains was performed by doctor carl schmidt of the wayne county medical examiners office. Her death was caused by her not being able to breathe, and she couldn't breathe because of dirt. This means that the child's face was forcibly maintained or imbedded into a dirt surface. The manner of death, of course, was ruled a homicide.
