The Heavy Cavalry in the French Army
Heavy, medium and light cavalry can be reduced to three types. The most common name for heavy cavalry regiments was quirisiers - named after the metal body armor they wore on their chests. Almost all were at least equipped with a helmet. They rode the biggest horses and got their pick of the biggest recruits.
