The History of Gettysburg
An awful lot of the dead were just slid into holes in the ground. No dog tags, no way of identifying anyone. And they became eventually skeletons. For decades, it was annoying for the farmers to plow around Gettysburg because you kept pulling up skeletons. A lot of them apparently found skulls valuable and decorative.
