When someone has a few screws loose, it means they are either crazy, eccentric, or mentally unstable. You can use this expression lightly, actually, to joke with someone. In high school, my friend Jessica and I would walk around town when we had nothing to do. We bought 10 boxes of cake mix, baked the cakes, packed some of them on top of each other,.
