Bell Canto is based on a true story. The country's president was not in the hostage crisis because his favorite soap opera is on on Tuesday nights. So he wasn't on the premises, but the soap opera plays a role in the plot. I just really love all the disparate elements she weaves in. It's highly readable. Plus, I've already imagined that the president that watches the soap opera is hot.
