San Francisco's Chinatown
Filmmaker Felicia Lowe made a documentary about San Francisco's Chinatown. In the 1860s, Chinese immigrants had been a convenient scapegoat for nationwide job shortages. The 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act barred the vast majority of Chinese people from entering the states. But in 1906, that refuge would be eviscerated by a double whammy of a disaster.
