A frozen woolly mammoth, which was about 20,000 years old, was thawed. The bacteria that had killed it were still alive in the mass tissue. There is smallpox virus from the 18th and 19th centuries that is still around in the permafrost. Life isn't one half of an opposition, but an intensity that's dialed up and down. Things can be alive and dead, then alive again.
