The Origins of American Nationalism

In the early 20th century, a lot of conservative Protestants were pacifists in the First World War. By the 1940s, by kind of taking on this militaristic posture, Christian nationalism gave them a way to situate themselves once again at the center of American society. They believe that America was founded as a Christian nation and they believe that their version of Christianity was at the center.
