How to Induce a Patient on ECMO

In the ECPR world, we generally will go lower. We want their native heart to come online and beat. It eliminates the necessity in many cases for augmentation of the left ventricular with a support device. But I have found in my own practice that if you keep the ECMO flow low, these patients are comatose, they're not using much energy. They don't need a lot of blood flow as long as we could look at indices that show us that their cells are getting enough oxygen.
