Yale and harvard were engaging in what dave swenson describes as uncomfortably idiosyncratic positions. Dave swenson had really pioneered that at yale, i believe, around 87. He gave them money when nobody else would. So he was a pioneer, in many ways, the harvard model. Harvard endowment took the same approach and actually had people on staff who were managing money with very high incentives,. Yale never had that.
