Black men all over the country signed up and shipped out, knowing full well the segregated, violent reality that their families would have to endure. Of the 380 thousand african american soldiers who served, only about forty thousand saw combat. They find themselves in positions where theyare constantly discovering that the white soldiers, who should be working with them right, are far more invested in making sure that they understand their place than they are in having black soldiers add to that collective effort.
