In august 19 forty nine, nearly four years after the fire, george sodder hired a small crew and excavated the site he had previously filled over with dirt. Excavating to a depth of five feet, the crew combed through the dirt and rubble to find human remainsthey found several coins that had been burnt but were still recognizable. Then they uncovered some bones. The scaletal remains, which appeared to be vertebrae, were sent to the smithsonian institute for analysis.
