In the 80s and 90s, organizations grew with lots of different platforms that were sometimes doing the same things. Service oriented architecture was about how to maximize the investment in our internal IT estate. Now people started to think about right-side service, microservice. Then there's also the idea of modular monoliths. This really seems like a complex way to build systems. And I don't think anyone's ever said that you shouldn't build structured models once you go past a certain scale.
