The racism was alive and well back home in Hong Kong. In Bruce Lee's case he encountered it among the British kids who saw him as Chinese and their buying fearier. So this put Ipman in a bit of a bind because he had taken a liking to Bruce so he was more than happy to bend the rules a bit for him. Far from being discouraged by their teachers the young fighter usually they would usually act with the blessings of their instructors. These guys trained for one reason and one reason only and that was to fight and fight they did a lot.
