Does a Tree Fall in a Forest Make a Sound?
In most cases, we don't need to fully decide what counts as a sound. But it could mean if a sound is something that is heard by a hearer,. That's what it takes for something to be a sound. It requires the hearing. A tree that falls in a forest with no one around to hear it does not make a sound. Because that's how we've decided to understand sound.
