The Importance of Covenantal Context in the Church
The Sermon on the Mount is an indictment of hypocrisy and unrighteousness within Israel, particularly its religious leaders. It's easy to kind of hear these metaphors and go Oh, well, yeah, I mean the church is the light of the world And I'm the salt of the earth But we shouldn't do that when we see it in its most natural context,. Its historical context, its covenantal context Then we can rightly understand what Jesus is trying to say.
