Special forces has always been to train teams in language and culture. We move people around so much hat we really don't have a cadre of people who've got real experience in parts of the world that we can use. The military services have been averse in the past to sending someone like tyler cowin to school for language, because they a feared you'll become focused just on that. So we've always celebrated and promoted generalists. I think you've got to make being fluent in at least one language, for officers, a requirement, and for more junior soldiers, something to reward.
