Orcas Are Emotionally Intelligent Whales
In the summer of 1970, a group of aquarium owners rounded up more than 80 orcas in a place called Penn Cove. They separated the young orca calves from their mothers. Seven were captured and put into captivity for display in aquariums. All of the orcas captured in Penn Cove that summer died within five years. Scientists don't know if they pass that trauma on down through the generations but if they do, this population might show it.
