Princeton didn't want to keep him because he was uncouth and unconventional. He's interested in something called discrete mathematics, which is the study of non-continuous objects. So there's a gap between one and two, two and three and so on. And this is a topic which is perhaps a bit unfashionable at the time. But America suited him and yet he had to leave it.
