Oppenheimer and Truman - The a-Bombs
Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who had overseen the Manhattan Project, was ultimately horrified by his creation. He first met Truman in October of 1945, months after World War II ended with the unconditional Japanese surrender to the Americans. The historian Peter Kuznick has a concise explanation of their meeting that foreshadows how the highest levels of American government examined the ethical side of not just using nukes but the then-insipient arms race.
