My parents were 20 years in germany, and they never learnd a word of it. Er, so it was exotic, i have to say. In tripoli, probably my parents were more adventurous than most. We would go to the souk to do vegetable shopping, for example. You wouldn't see other army folk in there. I loved those years i spent in north africa. How it thrilled me.
