Medical Nemesis by Father Ivan Illich
Father Ivan Illich wrote a book, Medical Nemesis. He argues that medicine is not credited for extending life expectancy and the dramatic increase in that happened in the 19th and 20th century. In some ways, like even takes what he said further by saying it can only be stopped when survival comes to depend on directed regulation of the organism's homeostasis.
