Is There a Spiritual Orthodoxy?
Brenny Brown says faith minus vulnerability equals rigidity. To me, rigidity is fear-based. It's not love-based. And whereas just faith, vulnerability in general, you can really experience love because you're not trying to control exactly what it should be or exactly what it is. I personally think that when sometimes it kind of depends on where we are personally in our own journey, if being able to stay in the church is viable. Sometimes we stay because we're in a place where we can manage the complexity of what goes on there that is not helpful towards our spiritual development.
