The History of the British Library
The contents of the library that have been sitting in the British Museum have been slowly translated and gradually made available to the public. The first parts of it were published in volumes in the 1870s to 1890s, right at a time when Britain was starting to feel its first imperial anxieties. How were the materials placed and archived? We probably can never know that because of the way they were mixed together and jostled about.
