CHAPTER

The Usefulness of Neural Nets in Cognitive Science

Jeff Hinton says his goal is to understand the brain, how the brain works. He talks about supervised learning and generative AI as useful byproducts of cognitive science or computational biology. There's plenty of critical analysis that argues that neural nets are not what's involved in simple things like memory. If you're interested in the brain, that's the kind of thing you look at. It's okay if you want to try it, but maybe it's the wrong place to look.
