The Rise of Rome in the 6th Century

Rome is interesting because it's right there on the Tiber River. Most of the habitations that we see seem to be focused on kind of highland areas, like volcanic plateaus or the tops of hills. The first temple that we know of archaeologically from Rome is right on the riverbank. It's in the lowland. They clearly have an interest in occupying theLowland. We see this continue. This is an early flood mitigation effort. Their landscape is changing, so they adapt their cult space. And literally lift it up and lift those temples away from the floodwaters.
