SCD - What's the Trade-Off Between Preemptive and Preventive?

When I was at Cora West, when I started to learn about the RAF protocol and SCD, the biggest thing that I've seen was people not really understanding the system. Most people were trying to add more nodes for performance, even though SCD is a single writer, single leader system. And then people didn't understand that the mechanism it chose for consistency could also get in a way of availability. People not understanding how that system makes the trade offs.
