Ada blackjack survived two years on wrangell island and over two months alone, despite having no wilderness survival skills at the start of the expedition. The remains of milton gale, allan crawford and frederick morer were never found. When she returned to nome, the newspapers dubbed her the female robinson crusoe. But then the press turned on her, accusing her of withholding food from lorn knight in order to save herself. She struggled to make ends meet and battled poverty and illness for the rest of her life.
