Galileo's Trial
Galileo's trial has been remembered as a great crime against reason. Galileo had made observations with his telescope that seemed to confirm the Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus was correct. The intolerant Roman Catholic church turned on one of the ages great geniuses in a vain attempt to halt scientific progress. But Galileo's martyrdom wasn't for not. In 1633, he may have lost his battle with the church, but in the end, the scientific revolution that he unleashed won the war.
