The Importance of Memory in Storytelling

There's this notion in Christian theology of eternity, which is a state of existence that is fundamentally different from sequential temporal reality. And as far back to St. Augustine went, we realized that we live in this present moment that is constantly slipping,. We're constantly, now, you know, the now that I said is already gone. How do I exist in more than an infinitesimally small fraction of reality? You do that through right now, memory and expectation, looking back and looking forward.
